My background in Nursing.

I started work as a Nursing Auxiliary in 1975, before training as a General Nurse, qualifying in 1979. I qualified as a Mental Nurse in 1982, and became a Charge Nurse (“Ward Manager”) in 1985, in London. Later I worked in a Crisis Intervention team and in an NHS self-referral counselling service. My training in Psychotherapy.

While still working full-time in that job, from 1987 onwards I trained with the National College of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy. I obtained their Diploma in 1993 and Advanced Diploma in 2002.

I began working as a self-employed hypno-psychotherapist in Plymouth in 1994, while still working part-time in nursing.

From 1995 I also studied at the University of Plymouth, obtaining my Psychology degree in 1998.

In 1995-1995 I also trained in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy with the Milton Erickson Foundation. My tutor was Dr Brent Geary who trained with Dr Erickson himself.

In 1997 I completed Level II training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) with the EMDR Institute. EMDR is recognised by the NHS as a suitable therapy for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

In 2002 I obtained my Diploma in Professional Studies in Counselling, also with the University of Plymouth. This included experience in the counselling services of Plymouth Mind and Plymouth College of Art and Design. Both involved working with clients experiencing severe mental health problems.
